Affiliate Disclosure

Why this page says that

Most affiliate disclosures are written once, in the future tense, and left there whether or not the site is actually earning anything. This one states where we actually stand, and it will be updated on the day that changes — not before.

What our links are today

• Manufacturer reference links. They go to the maker's own product or category page. They carry rel="nofollow" and are labelled (manufacturer) on the page. We earn nothing from them.
• No retailer links, no tracking links, no sponsored placements. Nobody has paid for a position in any guide, because there is nothing to pay for yet.

What happens when that changes

We are applying to affiliate programmes. If and when we are approved:

• Affiliate links will be marked rel="nofollow sponsored", as search engines require.
• Every page carrying one will show a disclosure above the first link, in line with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255).
• The banner at the top of this page will be rewritten to say which programmes, and the date.
• No ranking will move because of it. If a commission would change a recommendation, the recommendation was wrong to begin with.

Our standing commitments

• Recommendations are independent. No manufacturer sponsorship, gift or commission determines what we recommend or the order we recommend it in.
• We disclose before you click, not after.
• Facts are sourced. Specifications are cited to the manufacturer with the date they were checked. Where a figure cannot be sourced we write "no data found" rather than guess.
• We say what we did. Where a guide is a specification and warranty comparison rather than hands-on testing, the guide says so in plain words. See How We Review.
